SEVENTH EDITION OF AWARDS GETS BIGGER, BETTER AND MORE INCLUSIVE!
Since the 7th Edition of Mahindra Transport Excellence Awards (MTEA) was webcasted LIVE many of you are already aware that ROAD SAFETY and INNOVATION were the mantras of the evening that marked the ceremony. It took place on the 7th of March 2018 at the Ashoka Hotel in New Delhi. An evening that was brimming with the positivity, excitement and anticipation of the who's who of the Indian road transport industry.
All of whom gathered to honour our OUTPERFOPERMERS!
The MTEA recognizes various stakeholders in the trucking industry on parameters like
Outperformance, Excellence, Innovation and Change Leadership and judges against the backdrop
of Mahindra's RISE pillars - Accepting No Limits, Alternative Thinking and Driving Positive Change.
The initiative, with its inclusive nature, has set for itself high standards!
And with every passing year, the awards are getting bigger and better! Here's a lowdown on everything that's new:
- First and foremost, the inclusion of SCV, LCV and ICV Segment stakeholders for various awards category
- Customized Application Builder category for SCV and LCV
- Come Home Papa - Stories on Road Safety by Truck Drivers' Daughters. Girls writing stories on Road Safety, based on father's experiences on the road; Over 1300 entries received
- Overall Award Entries - 3722 Fleet Owners Participated; 8848 Nominations Received; 144 Shortlisted for Expert Jury Round
- 11050 Highway Dhaba Votes from HCV Truck drivers. 7271 HCV Drivers approached.
- Driver Jury - ICV & HCV Fleet Owners were asked to nominate their best Driver. 237 nominations. 10 Drivers were shortlisted; Jury Process included - Traffic Rules, Psychometric & Psychomotor test, Medical Check-up, Followed by Jury screening.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways that has continued to support the program for the fifth consecutive year.
Besides higher numbers, the entries also exhibited better quality, more interesting stories and a stronger pitch, giving us a feeling that the MTEA has come of age.
Bringing you the highlights –
Panel Discussion on a pertinent topic Commercial Vehicle End-of-Life Policy in India, moderated by Vivek Law, a prominent name in the Business News Channel industry.
The discussion focused on the likely contours of the policy as well as the impact of such a policy on all stakeholders like CV OEMs, government agencies, Fleet Owners, Single Truck Owners, etc.
The eminent members of the panel were Mr. Vivek Law, Consultant, Zee Business; Mr. Rakesh Batra, Partner, Automotive Practice, EY;
Mr. Y S Malik, Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, GOI; Prof G Raghuram, Director, IIM Bangalore;
Mr. Vinod Sahay, CEO, Mahindra Truck and Bus and Construction Equipment Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.
The audience comprising of prominent Truck Fleets Owners, Transporters and Logistics Company heads and professionals, Commercial Vehicle Financiers, Dealers of Commercial Vehicles, and Senior Delegates from Transport Sector, Faculty members from IIM, Ahmedabad, and delegates from Mahindra Group and heads of various agencies and select media delegates took immense interest and relished the proceedings.
The formal inauguration of the program started with lamp lighting followed by - The Rise for Good Act performance by specially-abled students of the Noida Deaf Society depicting the Rise philosophy and the three Pillars of Mahindra Rise.
Mr. Vinod Sahay, CEO, Mahindra Truck and Bus and Construction Equipment Division presented the report card of the awards program, reaffirming our commitment to continue, strengthen and make more relevant, this RISE initiative. He shared with the audience, the fact that the awards program was becoming bigger and better with every passing year and was attracting better quality entries, which is a heartening news. Ms. Saakshi Kishnani, Sr. Manager, Advisory Services, Media & Entertainment, E&Y provided the customary certification for fairness, robustness and transparency from the stage.
Prominent CV Financiers like ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank take away the top honors in their category.
Mr. Veejay Nakra, Chief of Sales & Marketing, Auto Division talked about the inclusion of SCV & LCV Category.
He stressed upon important roleplay by the segment in emerging Indian economy through last mile distribution.
Sundaram Finance was felicitated for
Enablers of Social Change Category.
This Award winner was specially nominated by the Grand Jury, even though they had not applied for it,
as they found that this organization has done significant work to bring about social change in the transport
ecosystem by fostering and nurturing the stakeholder at the bottom of the pyramid.

Dr. Goenka addressed the gathering about the significant changes in Economies and financial markets.
In his speech, he said "The best way to predict the future is to create it".
He urged the gathering to invest in own Light of Knowledge initiative, within their company, community, ecosystem.
He said, "There can be nothing better than investing in sharpening the saw,
to better prepare for the ever-changing forest." He talked about MTB's 'The Light of Knowledge' initiative - MPower for Youth Transporters in this context.
Dr. Goenka's speech was followed by MPower book launch.

On the theme of Road Safety, this year we introduced a new short story contest called "Come Home Papa" in collaboration with our literary partners,
#TellMeYourStory.
Mahindra Saarthi Abhiyaan Scholarship winner girls were asked to write stories on Road Safety,
based on father's experiences on the road.
All the stories were published online, at www.tellmeyourstory.in and the best thirty stories have been chosen
for publishing in the book.
Four Saarthi Abhiyaan Outperformers were felicitated with their family members and Bulbul Khan and Rukhsar Khan
were declared as the joint national winner for "Come Home Papa" - Story contest.
Sagar Dhaba from North won the 'national winner' awards in Highway Dhaba category.
And then came the moment of winning a Mahindra BLAZO 25 truck by CS Elangovan
from R Gopal Transport, being the "Super Outperformer Driver of the year".
CS Elangovan has shown longstanding track record of safe driving.
He also successfully passed each step of stringent Driver Jury process comprising of
Psychomotor & Psychometric tests, Traffic Rules and Medical tests.
YOUTH TRANSPORT PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR - Mr. Praveen Somani, Inland World Logistics Pvt. Ltd.
for the Rise Pillar - Accepting No Limits.
LADY TRANSPORT PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR - Ms. Anuradha Nijhawan - Finance, Anand Trans Logistics Pvt. Ltd. for the Rise Pillar - Accepting No Limits!
Lady Achievers Awards - Lady outperformer, Yogita Raghuvanshi was called on stage to felicitate two more lady outperformers;
Ms. Shilpa who runs a successful food truck business on a Mahindra Bolero pick-up truck and extremely inspiring
Lady Truck Driver Selvamani G.
Thereafter, Mr. Rajan Wadhera, President - Automotive Sector and Member - Group Executive Board,Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.,
made the concluding speech. In speech,Mr. Wadhera reinforced that MTEA will continue to applaud the endeavours of the unsung heroes of
our industry in the years to come.
The MTEA recognized the spirit of outperformance in the revolutionary company - RIVIGO through a special felicitation.
Speaking on the occasion, Y.S. Malik, Secretary, MoRTH, said,
"I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations and praise the Mahindra Group for coming up with
such a recognition for one of the most important sectors of the Indian economy.
There is a need that we honour those who are thriving to make a change in their day to day work
and this effort is in that direction".

NTC Logistics India Pvt. Ltd. for the RISE pillars - Accepting No Limits and Alternative Thinking!
The Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to Professor G. Raghuram, Director of IIM Bangalore,
who has had significant impact on the logistics and transport industry as a whole.
Over his distinguished career he has played multiple roles - academic researcher, educator, policy maker,
consultant, company director and many more.
And then, the final RISE Moment!
