About Awards

Eligibility Criteria

  • All companies / individuals in the field of road transportation can participate in Fleet Owner and Safety categories.
  • Individuals, Proprietary firms, Limited Partnerships, Partnership Firms, Private Limited, Public Limited, Government Bodies and Not-for-Profit Entities (NGOs/Autonomous Bodies) are eligible for participation in these Awards, as per classification, provided they are meeting the definition of "Entity" given above.
  • Applicants applying in the respective category for the Mahindra Transport Excellence Awards 2016 should satisfy the following criteria:

    Safety Award

    Evaluation Criteria - Safety Award

    One or more of the following criteria will be used by the Jury to shortlist and select the winners for the Safety Award category. Applicants should demonstrate their performance in these areas over the period of the past 12 months:

    1. Demonstrated commitment to improving all-around safety in transport operations
    2. Tangible initiatives implemented to track and improve safety of people, vehicles and cargo
    3. Outcomes and benefits of these initiatives on safety
    4. Best Safety Processes and measures
    5. Safety processes and measures implemented across sectors, not necessarily guided by customer insistence

    Given the all-around focus on Road Safety, MTBD has instituted a Safety Award based on recommendation from Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The intent is to felicitate fleet owner organizations that have taken demonstrable and sustainable initiatives to create a safe environment for life and assets, resulting in a positive impact on the transport ecosystem as a whole.

    • The nomination for Safety Award can be from any industry/application segment relating to Transport industry in India.
    • The nomination should be from an entity which fulfills the Fleet Owner eligibility criteria.
    • Only one entry per entity is permitted.
    • Winners of past years, who apply with the same case study, will not be eligible to win the Award

    Fleet Owner

    Evaluation Criteria - Fleet Owner Entry

    One or more of the following criteria will be used by the Jury to shortlist and select the winners for the Fleet Owner category. Applicants should demonstrate their performance in these areas over the period of the past 12 months:

    1. Use of Technology to bring about professional Management of the fleet, drivers or Growth which they wish to demonstrate.
    2. Use of Measuring tools to track Efficiencies, Customer satisfaction, KPIs, Growth, Strategies adopted etc.
    3. Adequate Processes and tools to track improvements.
    4. Benefits delivered to the Organization in respect of Revenue Growth, TAT of Vehicles, KM / trips added per month, Gross Margin / Nett Margins as a % of Revenues etc.
    General Criteria:
    • The Fleet Owner can apply for one or more award categories as defined in Award Categories.
    • Only a single entry per award category will be accepted from each entity. Multiple entries from offices/branches/subsidiaries of the same entity may result in disqualification.
    • Winners of past years, who apply with the same case study, will not be eligible to win the Award. Indian entity or foreign entity with registered presence in India can participate.
    • The form of entity must be one from amongst Company, Trust, HUF, sole proprietorship or partnership organization.
    • Must have completed at least 2 years of operations in India as on 31st October, 2016 (except for Emerging Transport Business Award).
    • The applicant should own and operate Heavy Commercial Vehicles (HCV having ten tyres and above), with a Gross Combination Weight (GCW) of more than 25,000 kilograms.
    • Entries must be signed by an authorized management representative of the Entity.
    • The entity must remain in operation for the entire duration of this award under the same management. If the entity ceases operations or there is change in management before the conclusion of the Awards, the entry maybe disqualified at the sole discretion of Awards Management.
    More than 100 HCVs
    • The fleet owner will self-certify that they own more than 100 HCVs. Proof of ownership / auditor's certificate in the name of the applying entity may be required at a later stage during the Awards process.
    Up to 100 HCVs
    • The fleet owner will self-certify that they own up to 100 HCVs. Proof / auditor's certificate in the name of the applying entity may be required at a later stage during the Awards process.
    • Entity applying in this category should not be a subsidiary / sister concern of another entity with combined fleet ownership exceeding 100 HCVs.
    HCV Tipper Fleet Owner Awards
    • The tipper fleet owner will self-certify that they own HCV Tippers. Proof of ownership / auditor's certificate in the name of the applying entity may be required at a later stage during the Awards process.
    • For HCV Tipper Fleet Owner Award - Construction Segment, the fleet owner applying should be involved in transport relating to Construction business and own HCV Tippers, RMCs, Concrete Mixers etc.
    • For HCV Tipper Fleet Owner Award - Mining Segment, the fleet owner applying should be involved in transport relating to Mining business and own HCV Tippers, Haulage Tippers, Tip Trailers etc.
    Emerging Fleet Owner of the Year Award:
    • The applying entity should be less than 5 years old as on 31st October 2016
    • Any affiliates or member firms of an existing entity are prohibited from applying this category of the Awards
    • The entity applying for the Award should be a debutant Fleet Owner in the business, any entity formed by splitting / dividing / disjoining or separating two or more entities, it does not qualify for this Award
    • The entity applying should not have been formed for the purpose of providing any underlying benefit to any other entity.
    • The decision of the above short-listing is binding and final on all applicants

    Youth Transport Personality (YTP)

    Evaluation Criteria - Youth Transport Personality

    One or more of the following criteria will be used by the Jury to shortlist and select the winners for the YTP category. Applicants should demonstrate their performance in these areas over the period of the past 12 months:

    1. Contribution to business growth and strategy
    2. Value addition to customers
    3. Contribution to people practices within the organisation
    4. Contribution to operational efficiency
    • MTBD has instituted "Youth Transport Personality of the Year 2016" Award to identify, recognize and reward the young stars - gent or lady, from the new generation/family of Fleet Owners. The nominations for this category will be obtained from the eligible Fleet Owners as per the qualification criteria. An entity can send multiple nominations. Winners of past years, who apply with the same case study.
    • The nominee for Youth Transport Personality of the Year 2016 should be:
    1. In the age group of 21 years to 40 years as on 31th October, 2016
    2. A member of the family owning and operating the organization. Nomination of an individual, who is not a member of the family owning and operating the transport organization, will not be accepted.

    Lady Transport Personality (LTP)

    Evaluation Criteria - Lady Transport Personality

    One or more of the following criteria will be used by the Jury to shortlist and select the winners for the LTP category. Applicants should demonstrate their performance in these areas over the period of the past 12 months:

    1. Contribution to business growth and strategy
    2. Value addition to customers
    3. Contribution to operations and processes
    4. Contribution to people practices within the organization
    • MTBD has instituted "Lady Transport Personality of the Year 2016" Award to identify, recognize and reward the contributions by a lady to the Transport Sector. The nominations for this category will be obtained from the eligible Fleet Owners as per the qualification criteria. You can nominate any lady employee/relative who has chosen to join your business or can self-nominate yourself, in case the woman is an owner in a partnership/sole-proprietorship firm. The woman nominee/applicant should be currently associated with the organization. An entity can send multiple nominations.
    • Winners of past years, who apply with the same case study, will not be eligible to win the Award

    Commercial Vehicle (CV) Financier

    Evaluation Criteria - Commercial Vehicle Financier

    One or more of the following criteria will be used by the Jury to shortlist and select the winners for the Commercial Vehicle Financier category. Applicants should demonstrate their performance in these areas over the period of the past 12 months:

    1. Growth strategy adopted for HCV segment
    2. Customer orientation demonstrated
    3. Innovation in SME/Retail segment
    • Indian Entity or Foreign Entity with registered presence in India can participate.
    • Should be an independent incorporated entity, either functioning as a Scheduled Bank or a Non Banking Finance Company (NBFC).
    • Must have completed at least 3 years of operations in India.
    • Financiers that are sister concerns, divisions or subsidiaries of commercial vehicle manufacturers are not eligible to participate in MTEA 2016.
    • The Entity should be financing commercial vehicles from all manufacturers. Financiers that only finance products of a specific company are not eligible to participate.
    • Multiple entries from offices/branches/subsidiaries of the same entity will be accepted.
    • Entries must be completed signed and stamped by an authorized senior management representative of the Entity.
    • The Entity must remain in operation for the entire duration of this competition under the same management. If the entity ceases operations or there is change in management before the conclusion of the Awards, the entry may be disqualified at the discretion of Awards Management.
    • Winners of past years, who apply with the same case study, will not be eligible to win the Award

    Highway Dhaba

    Evaluation Criteria - Highway Dhaba

    The evaluation for this category will be a two stage process.

    Stage 1 - Interview of truck drivers for their preference of Dhaba and the reasons. Both qualitative and quantitative data will be captured.

    Stage 2 - based on the maximum number of votes received, top 5 Dhabas across each region will be interviewed for final evaluation by Jury.

    • Indian Entity with presence on National or State Highway can participate.
    • Must have completed at least 6 months of operations in India.
    • Entity should be at least a highway eatery catering to truckers.
    • They should fulfil all statutory criteria of setting up and operating a highway restaurant, and for any other services provided, as per government norms.
    • MTBD has instituted "Highway Dhaba" Award to acknowledge the significance of this indispensable element of the Highway Transport Ecosystem, which helps keep the wheels of the industry on the move. The nominations for this category will be obtained through truck driver's voice poll, conducted across India, as per the qualification criteria. The Dhabas can be located anywhere in India.
    • They have to be located on any highway outside the municipal limits of any town.
    • The Winners of previous years will not be eligible.

    • For the purpose of this category, the regions have been defined as under:

      South Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, Telangana

    HCV DRIVER/SUPER OUTPERFORMER DRIVER

    Evaluation Criteria - Fleet Driver

    The evaluation for this category will be a three stage process:

    Stage 1 - Shortlisting of truck drivers based on nomination received from Fleet Owners and/or shortlisted through driver camps

    Stage 2 - Drivers to appear for assessment on multiple parameters including:

    • Physical Fitness / Medical test
    • Knowledge of Traffic Rules
    • Driving Ability - Psychomotor tests
    • Aptitude and Attitude - Psychometric tests

    Stage 3 - Top scoring drivers will be interviewed and evaluated by the Jury, using the following criteria:

    • Positive impact on customers and operations
    • Positive impact on other drivers and society
    • Safety consciousness

    • Indian citizen above the age of 21 years.
    • Must have a valid Driving License to operate a Heavy Commercial Vehicle.
    • MTBD has instituted "Fleet Driver" Awards to felicitate drivers who have gone beyond their work sphere and created a positive impact for the business, customers and community. The nominations for this category will be obtained from the eligible Fleet Owners as per the qualification criteria and/or shortlisted through driver camps held at various locations.
    • An entity can send only a single nomination.
    • The Winners of previous years will not be eligible for the Awards.

    MAHINDRA SAARTHI ABHIYAAN OUTPERFORMER

    Evaluation Criteria - SAARTHI ABHIYAAN OUTPERFORMER

    The Jury will evaluate this category basedon the accomplishment of the girl children in their academic performance and/or career path.

    • MTBD had instituted "Mahindra Saarthi Abhiyaan" scholarship scheme for girl children of truck drivers in 2014.
    • The girl child should have completed 10th standard and should be pursuing higher studies or a vocational training program
    • Over 2400 such girls have been awarded the scholarship to date.
    • Objective is to recognize the girls who have done well in education/career based on ethnographic study of the 2408 Mahindra Saarthi Abhiyaan scholarship recipients, with data and field survey.
    • The qualifying entrants will be interviewed by the Jury to select the winners
    • Timelines and other rules for this activity will be determined by MTBD and will be communicated to the applicants separately

    ROAD SAFETY SHORT STORY CONTEST : #HaveaSafeJourney

    • Some 1.25 million people die each year globally as a result of road traffic crashes, according to the Global Road Safety Report,2015 by the World Health Organisation. As per the report, India accounts for more than 200,000 deaths because of road accidents
    • Although road safety is the most common and important topic and has been added to various fields like education, social awareness, etc., there is a need to bring more awareness amongst the general public, especially the new generation, by adopting innovative and creative approaches to road safety campaign.
    • Mahindra Truck and Bus Division in association with Natural Habitat Preservation Centre, and supported by Ministry of Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, has introduced a nation-wide short story writing contest around the theme of road safety. The name of the contest is "Have a Safe Journey".
